1970s
Dr. Doug Clepper (’73), clinical assistant professor, received the Pierre Fauchard Academy’s Volunteer Faculty Award, recognizing ongoing education contributions to the DCG. Clepper serves as an attending in the Department of Restorative Sciences’ General Practice Residency, supervises senior dental students clinically in the Department of General Dentistry and co-directs the DCG Implant MaxiCourse.
1980s
Dr. Robert Brokett (’80) received Nobel Biocare’s All-On-4 Center of Excellence Award, recognizing expertise in dental implants. Brockett, who practices oral surgery at The Citrus Oral and Facial Surgery Center in the Florida cities of Crystal River and Ocala, is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. James Elerson (’89) has joined Bulldog Dental Care 24/7 in Athens, Georgia, owned by AU alum Dr. Jerry Williams (MD, ’90).
1990s
Dr. Gregory Griffin (’98), assistant professor in the Department of General Dentistry, was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Dentists.
2000s
Dr. Emily Howell (’05; orthodontics residency, ’07) was featured in the cover story of January/February edition of Orthotown Magazine. She has practiced orthodontics in Jefferson, Georgia since 2007.
Dr. Larry Willis Miles, Jr. (’05), adjunct faculty and a partner at Dental Partners of SWGA in Leesburg, Georgia, and Dr. J. Don Spillers, Jr. (’91), owner of Spillers Orthodontics, with offices in the Georgia cities of Warner Robins and Macon, were appointed to the Georgia Board of Dentistry. Members are appointed by the governor to regulate and enforce the standards of dental practice.
Dr. Lee Andrews II (orthodontics residency, ’06) owns Rogers & Andrews Orthodontics in the Georgia cities of Augusta and Thomson and recently broke ground on a third location in Grovetown.
Dr. Kyle Carney (’06) has merged Carney Family Dentistry in Rome, Georgia with the practices of Drs. Kirk Krueger and Richard Miller to form Georgia Family Dentistry in Summerville, Georgia. The practice includes Drs. Debbie Dismuke (’85) and Stephan Drescher (general practice residency, ’17).
2010s
Dr. Richard Hammond (’11) and Dr. Justin Ragan (’16) were named to Georgia Southern University’s 40 under 40 list for 2020.
Dr. Michael E. Ridlehoover (BS, ’13; DMD, ’17) presented at Augusta University as part of the My Journey Seminar series on Feb. 11. Ridlehoover is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, now in private practice in Augusta, Georgia.
Dr. Gina Hanafi (’14; pediatric dentistry residency, ’20) has joined Children’s Dental Columbia in Columbia, Tennessee.
Drs. John Camba (’18), Marcus Miller (’18) and Matthew Anderson (’19) are diplomates of the American Board of Endodontics.

Dr. Hardy L. Gray (’16), who practices at Advanced Dental Care in Valdosta, Georgia, is president of the Southwestern District Georgia Dental Association.
Dr. Jeni Heselbarth, (General Practice Residency, ’18) has received the American Academy of Implant Dentistry Associate Fellowship Award.
Dr. Sun Kim (’18) of Buford Family Dental in Buford, Georgia has been named the Top Patient-Rated Dentist by Find Local Doctors.
Dr. Cornelius Daniel Jr. (’19) has joined the Conyers Smiles dental office in Conyers, Georgia.
